What is worth doing is worth doing well.

from Wikipedia article posted below.

author writes about the 2nd mvt:

“takes the form of a vigorous romantic march characterized by a daring, formidable and clamorous network of dotted rhythms and harmonic dislocation.”

Problem #1: the overwhelming subjectivity. Since I don’t know the author, I can’t ask him/her where they found their idea for “romantic.” Informed listeners have a general concept of the term, but an uninformed individual seeking out new information for the first time could easily be misguided by this word.

Problem #2: the grammar. Using a lengthy series of sophisticated adjectives poses problems. They lost me after “clamorous” where i forgot what the adjectives were going to describe. This dislodges the reader’s concentration. Also, “dotted rhythms,” a very specific example of something, is paired with “harmonic dislocation,” an extremely vague and nebulous term that could mean a trillion things. That kind of inconsistency disturbs my thought process, because I’m expecting the author to explain further the dislocation.

thus, such is written: “The effect can be disconcerting, alternating between static and accelerando and fusing seemingly distant and irrational musical motives.” I find the effect delightful and completely satisfying, actually.
